I’m through with drowning in my misery
I’m not running this time. I’ll make a stand.
I won’t flinch at the walls in front of me
I’ll just destroy them all with my bare hands
It’s got to happen and it will happen
Because all I want to do is stay sane
Fighting my way out of this lion’s den
My mind is there for only me to claim
As I refuse old methods so uncouth
Radiating with a strength I can trust
And the mind finally wakes to the truth
The lies, the delusions – all ground into dust
I’ve conquered my demons – these words I shout
But now what do I write poems about?

My Parents
I help my mother with the week’s shopping
It’s from me that she knows what we all need
I get out the food she needs for shopping
Whilst she drives me around at top speed
When I tell a joke she thinks it’s funny
And she encourages all my writing
My father and I like to watch TV
We find the action movies just the thing
I help in his acts of home improvement
And he teaches me all about driving
We both go up mountains of steep ascent
And spend the weekends going kayaking
No, I don’t hate my parents – like I should
Because one day they’ll both be gone for good

Make Me Smile
My love, you will always be beautiful
You will never tarnish, decay or fade
Deep within my heart you will always rule
You bring in light where once was only shade
My love, you will always make me happy
You’ll always pick me up when I’m down
Your mere presence makes me want to be me
And to see no reason to wear a frown
My love, together always we should be
Regardless of what anyone else might say
It has and always will be you, you see
I wouldn’t have it any other way
My love, I want always to be with you
Because no one else can do what you do

What I Like About You
I write down these words for your eyes to see
About a true, strong bond set to endure
So you'll know how special you are to me
You arrived when I felt like a failure
Wanting to know all you could about me
With an intention so noble and pure
You make me smile, cry and laugh loudly
You don't look down on me nor turn your back
You just love being in my company
You banish all my inner demons black
You make me happy every single day
You show a concern that never falls slack
You bring the best in me out and away
You're someone I can be myself around
You crush any myth I create or say
You have brought, within me, a change profound
And ever since that day that we did meet
Everything's getting better as I've found
I hold your hand, and my heart skips a beat
I kiss your lips and fireworks ignite
I pull you close, emotions with heat
And even when you brought me a strength so bright
I see I've brought about a change in you
An enlightening change, powerful in might
I see that who you really are - so true
I see that I've been making you happy
I see I'm the friend you've been wanting too
I see I slay thoughts of feeling lonely
I see I can chase your fears far away
And I see you enjoy being with me
Failings are ignored for strengths bright as day
In the name of having someone to yearn
So a bond, both different and same, can stay
You are the light to make my sadness turn
I'm the light to banish your emptiness
To adore and be adored in return

Iris
Waiting at a bus stop in pouring rain
Looking back at the emptiest of streets
In a shelter made of grey concrete plain
Sitting on a grey bench of seats
On the most miserable Sunday morning
Alone with a destination to meet
A bus then arrives with it's door yawning
I then choose a seat when all are empty
Then through the rain, it grinds without warning
Eventually dropped off in the city
Through the rain I walk - past things to ignore
For there's a certain house waiting for me
Upon finding it, I knock at it's door
Before confronting a pair of blue eyes
Gazing at me with an intense implore
All defenses crumble - here is my prize
Bearing a purity no one else can touch
It all falls down with the sweetest of sighs
Within my hand beauty is all I clutch
A strong love untainted is all I see
With a wanting I must heed oh so much
The world stops turning. Time ceases to be
Within this deep ocean, I willingly drown
Into intoxication so pretty
I won't refuse this nor will I back down
Instead I'll submit to this emotion
For my princess, I present a gold crown
Melting away with intimate motion
All feeling gives way for love so pure
Fair lady, give me my drug, my potion

Dear Friend
Debating which anime girls we like
Talking lots about Final Fantasy
Prattling on fun stuff endlessly
Exchanging words understood by our psyche
Urging the other in the written word
Seeing only where the other brightly shines
Supporting each other in troubled times
Sharing loud laughter at all things absurd
Encouraging the other in romance
Providing whatever help when in need
Believing that the other can succeed
Who cares if this was a product of chance?
Caring naught for any differences
For strength in friendship commands the senses

Songbird
The songbird sings the loveliest of tunes
With a voice confident, knowing and fine
Proclaiming the most delicate of lines
Made up with words to make anyone swoon
The songbird listens to all that I say
She listens to each word attentively
She always seeks new words to come from me
Whether they be white, black or shades of grey
The songbird keeps saying I could do better
She tells me to do so with honest eyes
And to such a challenge I gladly rise
Some friendly competition? I’ll let her
So I write words for the songbird to read
It’s her world that requires such a need
