Night Chapel

Standing tall and pale against the black sky
Darkened windows, dulled sandstone and locked doors
A place where once welcomed all now looks shy
And the shadows have all come in force
Rising up, stabbing the sky, two towers
The walls are ageless – they won’t stop standing
It’s colour drained from the daylight hours
Funny: This place used to look welcoming
They say that someone is living in there
Someone who’s spent a very long time dead
But the building’s truths aren’t there to share
As the grounds are lit up with lights of red

The building exists but in its own light
Holding its own secrets within the night

Evil Noise

It came in the middle of the coldest night
Roaring up from the deepest depths of Hell
Striking down from up from the greatest height
Screaming a noise like a broken bell
Riding the same journey it took last week
It can’t be bought, bargained with or halted
Broken words, in dead languages it speak
Years of counter measures have all bolted
It’s stride: unbroken for years, relentless
It wants to be heard – to have the last say
No care for the many pleas you possess
And no demands, will make it go away

So hide in your room and bolt up the door
So the screaming can’t hurt you any more

The house on the corner

The street I live; there’s a house upon
Dull, colourless it looks like a jail
The letter box is filled with untouched mail
Rubbish is strewn across a messy lawn
There’s cars parked outside but no one goes in
Paint’s peeling and the roof’s in disrepair
Can’t recall when someone was living there
And the front door is always left open
Through the windows reveal a sorry scene
There’s trash on the floor. Furniture long gone
And when the night falls no curtains are drawn
The only light comes from a TV screen

Is anyone living there? Who can tell?
But the house keeps its secrets guarded well…

Video Store

It resides within a darkened corner
At the end of a lane where few dare to tread
It had a store name but now it’s faded
Its windows are as black as a mourner
There’s no way to see in: Step through the door.
But it only opens at the dusk hour
Once inside it smells of a dead flower
And the shadows dominate by the score
There’s no kid friendly stuff within these halls
Only the stare of demons and nightmares
Of a thousand murderers. And the gaze
As faces etched with fear scream from the walls

When you leave it’s quick: Sprint back up the lane
But the store knows that you’ll be back again

Nightmare

I was walking in a rainy twilight
Suddenly up pulled my grandmother’s car
I jumped in and pulled the seatbelt on tight
But the driver was not my grandmother
It was a stranger. A forty something
he had his face hidden with high collars
My blood turned cold, my hands began trembling
“Who are you?” I asked the man in horror
He didn’t answer. He just turned his head.
Dark painted circles, twisted painted grin
He looked alive as a corpse six days dead
To his world he had come to drag me in

He was a mess of make up and face white
He had come to take me into the night

Garden of Evil

I went into bush the other day
Cruel gang bashings onto me made no sense
Fleeing criticism I got away
But there’s no sanctuary. Just silence
It is deathly silent. There’s a bird call
But it’s one voice among the silent guards
These guards are the trees - standing straight and tall
And spades are drawn in this life’s pack of cards
Music plays at the bush’s other end
I walk on a path that will take me there
As I walk the music distorts and bends
And a girl comes with a face full of fear

I walk on. She made the same mistake too
On never ending path I continue
