Payday

My bank account has swelled greatly today
Just in time: I was through with being broke
But the drought is over; I have my pay
And with it my freedom I shall evoke
With this cash, I’ll get myself out of debt
I’ll go on ebay and a spending spree
I’ll buy tickets for a trip on a jet
For I finally have time to spend on me
I can meet my friends for drinks at the bar
I can purchase food for another week
I can now put petrol into my car
I can indulge in a life lot less bleak

The day ends: Goodbye to being wealthy
Hello to thirteen days of misery

Man on a Park Bench

On a bench in the park sits an aged man
Looking wise; traveled; no more than fifty
Wearing a blue and white shirt with pants tan
Looking of experience and weary

Clearly he’s led a long life. Where’s he been?
What stories can he tell? Is he alone?
Does he have friends? What wonders has he seen?
And where is he going? Has he a home?

He looks up to the sky, his eyes seeking
But the evening looms: Soon it will be dark
He ascends from the bench with joints creaking
Leaning on his cane he departs the park

With a stride purposeful and colossal
He heads across the street to a brothel

Car Stereo

Welcome to my car. Welcome to my turf
Just go with it for you don’t get a say
Am I in control, Nowhere else on earth
And I determine what music will play
I play what I like. What I don’t I skip
Doesn’t matter if you like it or not
So don’t complain or give me any lip
No voice, Being a passenger you’ve got
I don’t care how long a song’s length may take
This is called tolerance so suck it up
The journey torturous. So does it make
I’m in the boss chair and won’t give it up

So I drive alone with a CD new
I just wish someone else would like it too

Living Together

Walking home under the same umbrella
Letting her pick out, for me, some new clothes
Helping dealing with an eBay seller
Finding out we like the same TV shows
Having someone watch me play console games
Debating on whose turn it is to cook
Having her people skills to match my brains
Off my shelf; Finding her picking a book
Seeing a YouTube clip that makes us laugh
Singing the same song on the radio
Having together time sharing a bath
Indulging in a bond only we know

Making up a nice hot chocolate for two
Because these are all things that couples do

Manifesto of the Unhappily Single

I have a goal and I will reach for it
No matter what anyone else may say
To find a life partner I will commit
And nothing’s going to get in my way
I shall become one of the lucky few
I will deem all rejections offending
I’ll have a partner to worship so true
I’ll claim my own fairy tale ending
I will force the world to see my appeal
To this one truth I will make them succumb
I’ll embrace an idea as strong as steel
And determination deaf blind and dumb

But what I want is someplace to call home
Because I just don’t want to be alone

Confessions of a Loser

I’m a freak who has no right to exist
I’m the finest dreg of humanity
Even when it’s otherwise I tell me
Escaping this fate? I should not persist
I’m unemployed and unemployable
I inspire people to run away
And for what reasons? They simply won’t say
I only trigger excuses so cruel
I’m a dull, direction lacking, ugly
Forever broke, status quo offending
Nothing but hopeless, not worth defending
Desperate, pitiful, monstrosity

But there’s something for me, you need to do
I need you to know: I have feelings too

I feel better now

And suddenly it’s clear and it’s all true
Look at me: I’ve reason to be happy
Because I’m heading off for some place new
For I’ve had a moment of clarity
In amongst the confusion I found out
This thing called life: it’s one big joke you see
All the disasters? The failures? The doubt?
Don’t argue: Just follow it completely
The attempts made to progress aren’t worth it
So it shouldn’t be a concern for me
So goodbye those I know: You did jack shit
Now watch as I discard all sanity

So towards chaos I open the door
Is it worth it? I don’t care any more

The lament of a conscience

My friend has made a terrible mistake
I tried to warn him but he wouldn’t heed
I gave him the good advice he would need
But stupid moves he continues to make
I do my job but he just doesn’t care
Why speak? He won’t hear a damn word I say
I want to see him heading in the right way
But he keeps forgetting I’m always there
Why do I bother hanging around him?
I stuck with him! This is the thanks I get!
I’m treated with the same hate as a debt!
Well stuff it then: I’m handing my badge in

To make mistakes. So my friend you are free
Only this time it will be without me

Man's Best Friend

Within the eyes love unconditional
A face that doesn’t deserve any harm
The hardest heart, a nature to disarm
A motivation unquestionable
A friend who will never leave you alone
Who will love you more than you love yourself
Greater than you’ll know; Providing a wealth
From day of birth it’s all it’s ever known
True definition of friend to the end
No matter where you go; will walk with you
And will go with everything that you do
You; and much very prepared to defend

Still your best friend when no one else will be
For it’s not a complete jerk that they see

Four Old Men

Four old men were working in an office
Still doing the same job five decades on
Working with numbers, profits and losses
But the conclusion is still one foregone

Four men still talk of plans they had coming
As the computers and desks grow dusty
The business continues to keep running
Riding on skills slowly getting rusty

Four men still greet each other come morning
Any hopes, ambitions have all decayed
Where once run is now reduced to crawling
So may as well keep going ‘til they fade

Four old men working for a goal long gone
As the rest of the world keeps moving on

Its only love

A sunset’s been painted across the sky
Together on the edge of a clear lake
With a picnic basket holding wine, cake
As a summer evening breeze drifts on by

Dressed in a white shirt and a waistcoat red
Whilst she’s wearing a dress of deep blue
Seeing a truth only we know is true
The chink of wine glasses chime with words said

Her hand rests on mine. Warm is the touch
Leaning in, her head resting on my shoulder
Feeling a bond stronger than a boulder
And love for each other that burns so much

Another prefect day ends spent with her
For an evening together I confer

Sunday Lunch

A sky of clearest blue. No cloud in sight
A house fifty miles from anywhere
A backyard looking deserted and bare
A green garden lit up by the sun’s light

By several cars, a driveway occupied
But there’s no sign of life that can be found
That can be heard. Because the only sound
Comes drifting in from the building’s inside

Chinks of both wine glasses and cutlery
A mixture of voices both young and old
Jokes being cracked and stories being told
Away from the world a good company

All thoughts of tomorrow have gone away
For now is the time to enjoy the day

Thor goes to war

With the thunderbolts still at beck and call
An ancient force advances, proud and strong
Warrior. Guardian. King of his throng
Fought a thousand battles. Never did fall
To the undefeated a challenge comes
War calls: Now’s not the time to turn away
Voices of millennia guide his way
Each step to the sound of a thousand drums
Of fierce of Valkyries at his back; A score
The grip on the hammer strong as ever
The power of thunder ceasing never
Could be the last but it has been before

Having stood tall over the blood and slime
He picks up the hammer for one more time

The Old Man and the TV

It’s been one year into retirement
And one year of finding things to be done
The plans he’d made have already been spent
And suddenly there’s no roads left to run
Turn on the TV for nothing to do
What could be on? Does it even matter?
Take a seat. Move? Why bother trying to
Turn off the brain. Submit to the chatter
Enjoying when there’s not much to enjoy
Insisting its enjoyable when it’s not
Turn it off? Too much effort to employ
Relax for the motivation’s been shot

At sixty: Your new best friend: The TV
Naught to do but welcome senility

Born This Way

I may not grasp situations social
But I take pride in being different
I may have trouble in being vocal
But in my field I’m genius ascent
I may not work the best within a group
But I will not abandon my self-worth
I may struggle to remain in the loop
But I work harder than anyone on Earth
“He’s a weirdo”; “He’s strange’ people may say
But none of that matters at all you see
Because I’m a success in my own way
For it is an Aspie that I should be

And this is all me – A me that is true
I can’t change even if I wanted to

Melbourne Woman

Meeting at the station in Flinders Street
Where folk gather, clocks tell time and trains stop
Take a horse drawn carriage on cushioned seat
Tour the streets to the sound of the clip-clop
Walking hand in hand underneath skies grey
Rugged up in warm gear but still there’s shiver
Sharing sushi on a winters day
On a bench facing the Yarra River
Eating dinner at the Crown Casino
Taking a stroll along the Burke St mall
Take a tram – so many places to go
From Richmond, to Collingwood and Westall

The weather may be shocking but why care?
For a day in Melbourne is one to share

Tonight is just for us

Close the door and let in all the shadows
You. Me. Forget about the outside world
It’s within these arms that you should be held
Come to where a deep burning passion flows
Wrapped up in an embrace warm and lovely
But it’s different from last time: It feels true
If you’re so bold to show me the real you
Then I will gladly show you the real me
As bare skin touches passion runs white hot
Two pairs of lips can’t be kissed fast enough
No secrets any more. Nothing to bluff
Claim my love for you – of which there’s a lot

So much emotion burns bright in the gloom
And a flower has burst into full bloom

Two Hearts

Across the ocean a heart beats for me
It comes with a mind razor sharp and keen
As well as a pair of eyes so lovely
And the biggest smile I’ve ever seen
A heart that will pick me up when I’m down
A heart that is always thinking of me
A heart that will make me smile – not frown
A heart that, with me, where it wants to be
And I will return the heart’s devotion
There may be some risk but I just don’t care
Some might say ‘no’ – I’ll follow emotion
For, between these hearts, there’s plenty to share

Despite borders, beat as one these hearts two
For no distance can defeat feelings true

Survival of the Fittest

I don’t want to hear of nights spent alone
I don’t want to hear of no men in sight
I don’t want trying to find Mr Right
I don’t want to be treated with a groan
I don’t want to be ground through some long test
I don’t want demands so impossible
I don’t want to be dismissed as a fool
I don’t want to be silenced with the rest
I don’t want the excuses aplenty
I don’t want say one thing, do different
I don’t want not saying that which is meant
I don’t want being told what you can’t see

So how’s it gonna be? I’ll tell you how
I want your loving and I want it now

Chronicles of a Gamer (Michael Revisited)

I’m the one who walked with Link on his journey
The one Princess Zelda calls when danger nears
To Ganondorf I’m his constant enemy

I told Snake how to destroy the Metal Gears
Through me he found a sense of meaning in life
And we still meet regularly to drink some beers

I showed John Marston how to kill with a knife
With me he became a Legend of the West
And I got him back with his son and wife

I went with Commander Shepard – he’ll attest
I was with him through the Omega Relay
As everyone ‘round us gave their very best

I walked with Yuna every step of the way!
Got Ico and Yorda out of the fortress!
I’m that which makes Cyberdemons run away!

I got Samus Arun through planet Zebes!
Kefka, Loughain, M Bison, I did fracture!
Even Morrigan Aensland I did impress!

I got the Little Sisters out of Rapture!
I’ve faced down lines of relentless invaders!
Made friends with a wolf god and a space hamster!

I’ve been with Avalanche and Raynor’s Raiders!
When all’s gone to hell I’m the one they rely!
And I’m a friend of many a gun trader!

I’ve fought sand demons, zombies and colossi!
For I am the gamer and I’ve done it all
And in the eyes of my comrades, I’m their guy
