The Politician

You know what? I want to lead this country
Seems anyone can do it – why not I?
I reckon I could do a great job, see?
They won’t know unless they give me a try

To begin with, I’ll hand out equal rights
To the voice of the people I will concede
I’ll stand tall as the boss - I won’t start fights
I’ll give the people the hero they need

I’ll increase funding to schools and welfare
I’ll help the workers in getting ahead
I’ll make jobs for unemployed everywhere
I’ll work as hard as the next man for bread

I’ll recall armed forces from foreign lands
I won’t back down in foreign relations
Forget the ego, I’m a simple man
I will never use intimidation

But as I eradicate corruption
My allies will think I’m drunk with power
They’ll sell me out in the name of disruption
And abandon me when it all goes sour

Then the hero will die –become a tool
My views will become stuff of mockery
My opinions will be words of a fool
I’ll on my own with no one to save me

My kingdom will collapse through betrayal
I’ll be made into the fool that I should
Persecuted for a crime, I must fall
For trying to change the world for the good
